Malibu Sales Centre Recognized
At Annual Design Competition

Mike Niven, of MNID Inc., earned a honourable mention from the Association of Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) for the design of the Malibu sales office.

"It's always nice to be recognized by your peers," said Niven. "I think Toronto designers are wolrd class."

"The Malibu Sales Centre features colours designed to create a West Coast feel," continued Niven.

"Cool blues mixed with different shades of beige, green and red. Light maple finishes helped create the light, waterfront theme."

The head judge of the annual design competition, Richard Eppstadt, said a buoyant local condo market brought many entries.

"There are an awful lot of condos going up out there," said Eppstadt. "We really looked for something creative that showed out-of-the-box type thinking."

Malibu At Harbourfront Interior
Designer Takes Pair Of Top Awards
For Sales Centre

TORONTO

(November 23, 2004) – When it comes to capturing the essence of lifestyles in condominiums, the sales pavilion at Malibu at Harbourfront is tops in Toronto. That is the verdict of the judges in a pair of different awards programs held this fall.

Mike Niven, of MNID Inc., designer of the Malibu pavilion took top honours at both the Association of Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) awards in early October and the prestigious National Post Design Exchange Awards program in November. Both awards are directed at recognizing condo sales centres, which most accurately reflect the character of their projects and promote its success.

The ARIDO awards represent recognition by peers in the interior design industry while the Design Exchange Awards are conferred by an independent panel of judges. The Design Exchange Awards is the only design competition, which judges design by results – balancing function, aesthetics and economic success.

“It is very, very rewarding to have your work recognized both by your peers and an independent panel,” says Mr. Niven. “I think these awards have shown that Toronto designers are world class. Our work holds up on a global scale.”

Mr. Niven’s goal at Malibu was to create the look, feel and ambience of a southern California oceanfront community, which accurately caught the flavour of Malibu’s two-level beach lofts and more traditional tower suites. To do this he mixed the cool blues of the Pacific with shades of red, green and beige found on tile roofs and beach side hills and cliffs.

Light maple finishes, an entryway pool and illumination, which changed with the hours of the day not only enchanted visitors but provided a dynamic background for the accompanying model suites.

Malibu at Harbourfront is the signature Toronto project for international developer Malibu Investments Inc. The project, on the northwest corner of Bathurst Street and Lakeshore Boulevard West is a 30-storey tower rising from an 11-storey podium.

Malibu even features its own Malibu Club Spa, complete with pool, sauna, exercise room and Beach lounge. Its proximity to both Harbourfront and the downtown pleasures of King Street’s theatre district and Queen Street’s boutiques and restaurants has made the project one of the city’s fastest selling addresses.

“We are extremely proud of Mike Niven and what he and his team have accomplished at our sales pavilion,” says Rony Hirsch, Malibu president. “He has managed to combine taste, judgment and an eye for exquisite detail into an experience, which gives buyers the true look and feel of what life at Malibu will be like.”
